With the Crysis 2 demo dropping on PSN sometime tomorrow, I thought I'd do a little digging on the maps, including the ones we wont be seing in the demo. So without further ado...

DOWNED BIRD
A huge alien ship has been shot down here and carved a huge trench into the ground before co
ming to a shuddering halt. This map mixes long exterior sightlines suiting snipers and interiors suiting close range specialists. Use stealth and power to get into position then armour to finish the fight. The Grendel is a good choice for this map allowing engagement at medium and long ranges and consider adding the shotgun attachment for when enemies get too close. This map is excellent for hard fought Extraction matches.

CITY HALL
Welcome to City Hall, or what’s left of it... This proud icon of New York has been ravaged by some form of alien craft and looks in danger of imminent collapse. Snipers can use the ruined sky bridge to gain a vantage point over much of the level, whilst the really adventurous can perch on the alien tentacle itself. With so many twisting turns and changes of height the enemy could be lurking anywhere so use the hologram decoy to lure them out. Capture the Flag matches work especially well here.

PIER 17
The ruined mall at Pier 17 overlooks the shattered harbour with the ferry terminal opposite on the verge of toppling into the ocean. This U-shaped map has some large open spaces with limited cover so use stealth mode to move unseen and surprise your enemies. With longer range combat opportunities and various high vantage points the DSG1 is an excellent choice here and could make the difference in a close Team Instant Action match.

IMPACT
A grand hotel and an ultra modern office block have lurched together and are somehow propping each other up although the shockwaves periodically rippling through the structure indicate they won’t hold much longer. This is the smallest and tightest of all the maps and requires lightning reflexes to survive for long. Either keep continually on the move or set up an ambush, just remember to relocate after each kill. The tight spaces make the Jackal a superb choice as you don’t need to worry about longer range fighting. Team Instant Action matches are particularly intense on this map.

PARKING DECK
The Parking Deck is the central feature of this map, surrounded by rubble strewn streets and smashed shops. Use power mode and you will realise there are a surprising number of routes into the Parking Deck so use the power jump to attack from unexpected directions. Most combat is at closer ranges so consider using the Mike and punish those who rely on armour to keep them safe. This map is excellent for tense Assault matches.

SKYLINE
The Glasshouse dominates the center of this skyscraper rooftop and from the summit almost the entire area is revealed. Controlling this central high ground gives a major tactical advantage so expect fierce fighting in and around it. The map is small but with extreme verticality, use your Nanosuit abilities to quickly gain the high ground and then defend it against all attackers. The shorter distances mean the Feline is an excellent weapon choice on this map which is particularly well suited to intense Crash Site battles.

LIBERTY ISLAND
Liberty island is a unique location in Crysis 2 because it is one of the larger maps in Crysis 2 multiplayer and can actually be seperated into different parts depending on the game mode you select. Read through our focus article and check out the flythrough above to learn more about it.

spent a little while looking up the black ops multiplayer maps today so I figured I'd make The search a little easier for anyone trying to find the same thing.

ARRAY

Array is a map first revealed in Gamestop’s ‘Surprize Attack’ trailer. The map is another snowy map, most likely set in the Ural Mountains similar to ‘Summit’. The trailer gave us a great shot of the map from above, with a Russian Mi-24 ‘Hind’ helicopter firing down from above.

Array looks certain to be a great Domination or Capture the Flag map, with several snaking paths around the sides and several buildings through the middle. Other features of the map include a huge satellite dish that players can get onto, and even walk along the top edge, and also what seems to be a gigantic telecommunications tower that players may be able to get inside.

The communications equipment, and things such as military vehicles and cranes, lead us to believe that ‘Array’ is set upon a Russian military base, possibly still under construction. It is hard to provide in-depth strategies for this map based on the footage we’ve seen so far, but ‘Array’ looks to be a fairly close-quarters, yet large, map with few places to camp or hide out for extended periods of time. One thing for certain though is you can expect to see several different styles of gameplay on this map come release day! Finally, based on the aerial view of ‘Array’, it is possible to see that air support killstreaks will excel, as there are very few tight spaces, and there are at least three fairly large open areas where a Napalm or B-52 ‘Rolling Thunder’ airstike would be ideal.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
CRACKED

Cracked is a map located in Vietnam. The first impression that you will get from this map is that it is a dusty, derelict, and war-torn town, with very few of the buildings intact. If you dig beneath the surface however, you will find out that ‘Cracked’ is a map that will play to the strengths of almost every gameplay style. Long sight-lines will give snipers and LMGs great opportunities to pick off stragglers who are unable to find cover, but the tight and twisty alleys will be the perfect playground for surprise attacks by assault rifle and SMG users.

Other features of the map are multiple levels, and some structures being almost totally destroyed (allowing you to leap from building to building in some places!). ‘Cracked’ looks to be a great map for Domination, with flags A and C at either end, and flag B almost dead-centre, standing proudly on top of a small mound. Capture the Flag will also suit this map perfectly, with several different routes to take to get from one side to the other.

The factions that will be doing battle in ‘Cracked’ are Op40 and the NVA (North Vietnamese Army).

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

CRISIS

Cuban jungle base with great indoor outdoor flow to it. cave like rooms and rocky terrain that opens up to a more wide open beach complete with landing vessels for cover.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

FIRING RANGE

A military practice facility set in a carved out jungle. smaller map for lots of action and plenty of moving targets for your dumb unsilenced team mates to show where your coming from.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

GRID

Snowy Russian power grid with plenty of tactical locations for great battles

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

HANOI

North Vietnamese prison camp excellent for headquarters matches

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

HAVANA

Cuban city filled with tactical street fights. looks reminiscent of crossfire from mw but better.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

JUNGLE

Jungle warfare with great vertical gameplay

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

LAUNCH

Huge space launch facility that is perfect for any game mode.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

NUKETOWN

Nuclear testing grounds, smallest map with fast paced action. There is some kind of reward for shooting off all mannequin heads in record time.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
RADIATION

Fully operational plant, very balanced for all gametypes

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SUMMIT

Research facility on a snowy mountain. Fight from all angles.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

VILLA

Urban estate. Good corridors for long range fights.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The next wave of patches for Ubisoft Montreal's Far Cry 2 will bring a new "hardcore" multiplayer setting to the PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 open-world shooter.

"The hardcore mode has been designed as an answer to a community request," Ubisoft community developer Atmon wrote on the game's official forums. "Some players were seeking and expecting a more realistic experience. "

The changes will be available in every multiplayer mode, bringing:

  • A new damage model will be applied with increased damage for all weapons.
  • All weapons have been rebalanced on normal mode, and on hardcore mode.
  • Enemy names will disappear after the spawning invincibility period is over (A shield is displayed above a player’s head for a few second to show that he is invincible).
  • A new option will allow you to tweak spawning time (but not spawning rate).
  • A new search option will be available in multiplayer to allow you to find games that are playing on hardcore mode.

No word yet as to when the actual patch will arrive.

Killzone 2 Weapons

Posted by lakerman | 9:33 AM | | 0 comments »

It will have been over four years since the release of the original Killzone when Killzone 2 hits retail shelves in February 2009. In that stretch of time, PlayStation owners have endured delay after delay in hopes of one day finally getting the opportunity to sit down with the highly anticipated title in order to take down one Helghast at a time. One of the key components to taking down this dastardly enemy of mankind is the weaponry you’ll be equipped with. We’ve taken the time to display the known weapons for Killzone 2.

First up is the standard issued ISA Assault Rifle. It won’t come as a shock if this ends up being your main weapon of combat throughout the game, but we’re hoping that this time around Guerilla Games gives us a little bit larger magazine clip to work with. Hopefully, as displayed below, that added clip of ammo will be used as an extra source of ammunition that will give you a quicker reload and more bullets to spray paint across the battlefield. We can also speculate that because of the green scope attachment, this Assault Rifle is also packaged with the grenade launcher much like the similar scope was packaged with that rifle in the original title.

This brings the Machine Gun up next, which happens to be looking like an altered version of the M249 SAW. While this option will come packed with more rounds at a faster rate, we’re sure the damage potential will be much lower than that of the Assault Rifle. Not to mention the recoil, if done realistically, should create a bit of inaccuracy in comparison as well. Though users will probably give up damage for a faster rate of fire, this would be your obvious second choice for your primary weapon.

Add ImageA new addition to the Killzone Gun Club is the Revolver (Featured in Liberation, but not the original Killzone). Oddly, this handgun was left out of the original title from what we can gather, but found its way into the sequel. We’re hoping that the revolver just happens to punch a nice amount of damage behind that beautiful kickback. If we look at the revolver within other games, we can take delight in knowing what type of stopping power this little package can deliver. Here’s to hoping the Helghast are poorly prepared for its punch.

Below, you’ll notice a miscellaneous rifle that we’re not quite sure on what it could be. From what we gather, it is quite similar to the Assault Rifle/Shotgun combination from the original Killzone – minus the red scope. If this is the case, it’s good to know that this dual-purposed weapon will be made available to users in the game once more. This was by far our favorite weapon in Killzone and we’re glad it is potentially making its return. This gun is sure to be the most efficient not only in distance-based combat, but in close-quarters battle as well.

This little SMG-esque gun (A replica of the PP 19 Bizon SMG) is new to the franchise much like the Revolver. We’ve done our digging around and can’t find anything eerily similar to the style nor the design. We understand the game has undertaken a huge redesign since the original title, but it still leave zero resemblance like other guns we’ve mentioned already. Our best bet is this is just a standard two-handed SMG that will allow you to drop the Helghast to the floor in quick succession.

The Rocket Launcher looks like a real nice piece of work in Killzone 2. As shown below, we’re hoping this bad boy destroys as great as it looks. As in any game, the rocket launcher is used with no caution and only complete destruction is relevant. We can only imagine how the rag doll physics will send Helghast flying after taking a pill poppin’ from one of these bad boys.

The last type of Rifle displayed throughout the trailers thus far is the single-shot rifle below. This high-impact rifle is sure to do some damage no matter where it hits you. We're sure this will be the weapon of choice for a variety of gamers and we look forward to firing off a few rounds for ourselves come February. We’ve obviously saved the best weapon for last. The Shotgun -- now we understand we said the dual-rifle/shotgun was our favorite weapon of all, unfortunately, when it comes to just a standard equipped gun, nothing beats the shotgun on its own. Moving through corridors and weaving through close-quarter combat, it’s always great fun to watch the enemy take a shell to the chest and go flying in reverse. Mowing down one Helghast at a time, the trusty sidekick of the Assault Rifle should leave any ISA Soldier proud to be at war.

I cant wait to find out first hand about these and other weapons available. There is also a bolt gun which shoots exploding ammunition and a devastating looking flamethrower, both of which can be viewed in the video below.

Killzone 2 Class System

Posted by lakerman | 6:47 PM | | 0 comments »

The Killzone 2 multiplayer uses a class system similar to Half-Life: Team Fortress 2. There are 8 classes with 7 having special abilities in the form of badges. These badges can be mixed to customize the users playing style.

Rifleman

The default class when a primary badge is not selected although a secondary badge may be used. The rifleman can start with all but specialized weaponry.

Engineer

The engineer's primary badge ability is to set up automated turrets that target enemies.

The secondary badge ability repairs turrets, ammo dumps , and mounted guns.

Medic
The medic's primary badge allows him to heal downed team mates.

The secondary badge allows the medic to throw health packs for their team.

Scout

The scout's primamry ability is to use a cloak rendering the player nearly invisible.

The secondary badge allows the player to tag enemies with hidden markers to give their locations to team mates.

Assault

The assault class badge gives the user armor that is twice as strong as regular armor.

The secondary badge can temporarily boost running speed.

Tactician

The primamry badge allows the player to creat spawn points in the form of colored smoke grenades.

The secondary badge allows the player to call in air support from a sentry bot.

Saboteur

The primary badge allows the player to be disguised as an enemy .

The secondary badge alows the player to throw a proximity activated explosive charge.

Heres a look at the campaign mode for the highly anticipated Killzone 2, which will be coming to ps3's everywhere in Febuary 09.
